michael bloomberg’s idea, to charge $8 to travel into downtown manhattan during peak travel hours, is one of the greatest american transit advances i’ve heard of…
my impression of my fellow citizens is that we feel like we shouldn’t pay a premium for wasting precious fossil-fuel resources, consuming massive amounts of food, and otherwise titillating ourselves with otherworldly amounts of everything. until now, this has applied to everything, including transit and the amount of time we feel we are entitled to spend in our cars. (think: how many american cities have viable public transit systems??? answer: fewer than the number of fingers on one of your hands…)
hopefully new yorkers, and tourist vacationers with an unholy love for their cars, don’t get too upset with the fee. it really is an awesome idea.
>Keep up the good work.
